Southampton to scrap ban on photographers
Southampton Football Club is understood to be dropping its controversial ban on the media sending their own photographers to cover matches at the club's home ground of St.Mary's.
Saints imposed the ban this season, telling the media they would have to pay for pictures taken by the club's own photographers.
The move sparked a fierce "press freedom" row with newspapers. The Sun in retaliation banned naming Southampton on its sports pages, instead the paper referred to it as "South Coast Club".
Newspapers showed ingenuity in getting round the ban by using old pictures, Roy of the Rovers-style drawings and even toy Subbuteo figures.
