Editor Mark Ellen in the latest edition of The Word remembers having lunch with the new md when he was involved with a number of titles at EMAP, including music mag Q.
Ellen recalls the md, who he describes as "looking like Mr Burns from the Simpsons," asking why so few reviews in Q gained a five-star accolade. He replied that was because there were few five-star records.
The md continued: "So five-star reviews have enormous value...Why don't we sell them then? If people want five stars, they can pay for them."
Ellen comments:"It was going to be a long lunch. And the starters hadn't even arrived."
