The free weekly Bromsgrove Advertiser, published by Newsquest, is carrying an online banner ad for the BNP proclaiming "British Jobs for British Workers" along the top of its home page here.

Jon, the Southend Echo - also a Newsquest title - was carrying a BNP Google ad just over a week ago. I understand the argument they use is that they have no control over Google ads...which, to my lo-tech mind, must be bollocks. New media folk are better placed to know. The NUJ NEC was meeting on the day the ad was running and passed a motion condemning it and - I think - calling for it to be removed/refused in future. Be worth chasing up, we should be hitting this one hard I think. This Euro election is one of the most important elections in my lifetime. The BNP smells success and if it wins seats it will get tens of thousands of pounds of our money which it will use to spread its racist and discriminatory filth even deeper into our communities in preparation for the general election next year. Quite frankly, we can't let this happen. And stopping these ads - or creating enough noise around them - is something NUJ members can and should be doing.
