Local news shock: Is frog massacre up there with dead fish and custard shortage?

Is this tale to join the famous dead fish or Whitstable custard shortage for quirky local newspaper stories that get more coverage than they perhaps deserve?
The Scarborough Evening News splashes on the story that: "FROGS have been found massacred at a Scarborough beauty spot."
It adds: "Children are believed to be responsible for the attacks which were discovered by visitors to Quarry Mount Park, off Seamer Road. They were horrified to find a number of the protected amphibians had been killed and their eggs squashed."
There is a saying in US journalism that "if it bleeds, it leads" but I am not sure that applies to frogs.
