Impartial news is the best of PSB says poll

Opinion leaders working in the media (defined as 'influentials') rate impartial news programmes as the most significant benefit of Public Service Broadcasting (53%), followed by safeguarding high quality UK-made programmes (41%), and ensuring diversity of content for audiences of all kinds (29%).
These are some of the findings of a poll by YouGovStone on behalf of Voice of the Listener & Viewer, which campaigns to safeguard the future of public service broadcasting, published today. For 25% of ‘influentials’ high quality national radio stations were the most important benefit of PSB·
Asked what categories of programmes on mainstream channels should be British-made, the ‘influentials’ select national, regional and local news (97%), serious current affairs (87%), documentaries (63%) and children’s programmes (also 63%)
The poll says ‘influentials’ value the role that TV plays in their lives but 52% say that the quality of TV has declined because of the proliferation of cheap, reality-TV formats; more competition for audience numbers in a multi-channel environment; decline in advertising revenues
It also reveals that ‘influentials’ would be ready to pay more (£159.84) than the present Licence Fee (£142.50) for all BBC services. However other research from YouGov suggests that the public at large would like to pay less than half (£63.22) the present Licence Fee.
