Newsquest journalists on strike in North West

NUJ members at Newsquest Cheshire and Merseyside have begun the first of two days of strike action today over the company's plans to make five redundancies.

The strike involves journalists working on the Warrington Guardian, Northwich Guardian, Sale and Altrincham Messenger, St Helens Star and The Wirral Globe.

Some of the titles were once part of Eddy Shah's Messenger Group which was involved in a bitter dispute with the print unions. It is also where Rebekah Brooks started her career in journalism.

The second strike is planed for next Tuesday (20 September)

NUJ members want the company agree to immediate high level talks and suspend the redundancy consultation to allow for agreement to be reached.
