New job cuts at Johnston Press papers in Ireland

Johnston Press has announced a new round of redundacies at its newspapers in Ireland, which include the Kilkenny People, the Leinster Leader and the Limerick Leader, according to a report in the Irish Independent today.
The Independent says: "The company told employees at several titles last week that their jobs were being cut as part of a new round of cost savings...Johnston Press wrote down the value of its Irish regional newspaper titles by 77pc in just two years, following a €155m spending spree earlier this decade which cobbled together Ireland's largest regional newspaper publishers. The company tried to sell the titles last year but did not get a high enough offer."
