So.Glos.com triumphs over media giants at awards

The independent online magazine for Gloucestershire, SoGlos.com, which is seen as one of the successful new media start-ups launched by journalists, has been named Website of the Year in the EDF Energy South West Media Awards 2010.
SoGlos.com beat competition from South West Media Awards finalists BBC Bristol, Northcliffe’s This is Bristol and DMGT’s Tiverton People to win the award.
SoGlos.com co-founder and editor Michelle Byrne said: "This prestigious award win is testament to our small but dedicated team’s work over the past three years – and we’re particularly thrilled to be victorious when up against media giants including the BBC, Northcliffe and DMGT."
  • SoGlos.com was launched by Byrne and James Fryer in 2007 as an online Time Out for the county. When I interviewed Fryer for Press Gazette on a piece about journalists as entrepreneurs he said he believed So.Glos.com could be a model for other start-ups across the country.
