Headline writers clean up with Lionel Messi puns

He's not just the best footballer on the planet, Barcelona's Lionel Messi is a gift to headline writers.

The News of the World came up with "Messicre" to describe Barcelona's 3-1 thrashing of Man Utd in the European Cup final at the weekend. The Mirror dubbed him "Lionel Flair" and the Sun "The Lionel King".

In April 2010 both the Sun and Mirror dubbed him the "Messi-ah" after he scored four goals against Arsenal in the Nou Camp.

British sports subs peaked with Messi punning headlines after Barcelona previously beat Man Utd in the European Cup Final in 2009.
