Editor & Publisher reports that the New York Newspaper Guild has filed two unfair labor practice charges against Thomson Reuters over what it says is a sudden and unfair ban on wearing red T-shirts with pro-union messages during labor negotiations.
The Guild claims it is a "long-standing practice" to wear the red union t-shirts "to show solidarity" during contract talks. In its complaint to the National Labor Relations Board, the Guild alleges the ban violates federal law because only Guild T-shirts are singled out, and because the alleged edict amounts to implementing a dress code without bargaining with the union.
