You can hold editor Elton's front page for £1,000

The Independent, guest edited by Elton John, stands out from the rest of the nationals in the newsagent today by devoting the front page to a specially commissioned picture of roses by British artist Gary Hume.

A limited edition of 100 prints of the picture, signed by the artist and Elton John, are available for £1,000. All profits go to the Elton John Aids Foundation as do all the proceeds from today's Independent which is a special World Aids Day edition

The front page is said by the Independent to have been designed by Hume to "evoke the transience of life which the deadly Aids pandemic underscores." Hume says: "I chose a rose because it is a beautiful thing that blooms, and then dies."
