Students from the University of Central Lancashire have teamed with a Finnish university and telecoms research centre Nikua for a new European multimedia journalism project.
They are producing two newspapers and a media website on their first cross platform pan-European mobile news week.
Postgraduate and undergraduate journalists from print, broadcast, photography, publishing and international journalism are being linked by a daily tele news conferences to their counterparts at the Tampere University of Technology.
Part of the project involves testing Nikua’s Newelo editorial content management platform using N900 mobiles provided by Nokia for research and development on the Bespoke digital project.
Heli Vaataja from TUT is joining the Preston team to conduct research on mobile news delivery.
Paul Egglestone, digital coordinator for uclan’s School of Journalism, Media and Communication, said: “This ambitious project will allow students from both universities to display their abilities as multi-media journalists. We hope this groundbreaking work will help set the agenda for teaching a new generation of journalists.”
