BBC Lincs leads on claims Echo going weekly

This morning's lead story on BBC Radio Lincolnshire was that speculation is growing that the Lincolnshire Echo is about to become a weekly newspaper.

It included an interview with the paper's former editor and news editor Cliff Smith who said: "It is probably inevitable that it will go weekly". He pointed out that the circulation of the Echo has fallen from close on 40,000 a night to just over 17,500.

Speculation that the Echo is to follow two other Northcliffe dailies, the Scunthorpe Telegraph and the Torquay Herald Express, intensified after the sudden departure of editor Jon Grubb last week.
