Barter in frame for NUJ deputy general secretary
Miles Barter, the NUJ's former northern organiser and campaigns officer (pictured), is understood to be considering standing for the post of deputy general secretary of the union.
One possibility is that he and Jenny Lennox , the NUJ's assistant organiser (publishing), could team up and stand for the post as a job share.
Apparently Barter was urged to stand for deputy general secretary by a number of delegates at the union's delegate conference in Southport at the weekend, and he has not "ruled it out".
Barter, is a former regional weekly editor and one time Midlands' correspondent for Press Gazette. He has worked in local radio and local government communications and is currently freelance.
The deputy general secretary post has become vacant because the current deputy, Michelle Stanistreet, has been elected unopposed to succeed Jeremy Dear as general secretary of the NUJ.
