Sunday Times: Telegraph 'suppressed' Cable story

The Sunday Times in its leader today doesn't accept claims by a Telegraph spokesman that it was "utter nonsense" to suggest the paper held out for commercial reasons its undercover exclusive that Business Secretary Vince Cable had "declared war" on Rupert Murdoch.

The leader says despite the "valid journalistic exercise" in exposing hypocrisy among Liberal Democrat MPs: "The Daily Telegraph hardly covered itself in glory. It stumbled on Mr Cable’s comments about Mr Murdoch, agonised what to do, then decided to suppress its best news story because it had joined a media coalition opposed to the takeover of the rest of BSkyB by News Corporation. In the end it took the BBC, no friend either of the takeover, to expose the story."

The Sunday Times is behind a paywall.
