Zimbabwe Times website reports that the Daily News publisher ANZ must now wait a few weeks before a licence can be issued and it can start publishing again in Zimbabwe after being banned for six years.
It says the MIC, the previous licencing authority was abolished by a constitutional amendment. It is currently in the process of being replaced by the new Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC).
The Parliamentary Standing Rules and Orders Committee has scheduled next Monday for the interviewing of applicants for the board of the ZMC board. The names of at least 12 nominees will be forwarded to President Robert Mugabe who will select the final list of nine board members.
Zimbabwe Times says: "With the announcement this week of the return to Zimbabwe of international players such as the BBC and CNN it was only a question of time before the government of national unity turned its attention to addressing the issue of the country’s own internal media situation."
