Jon Gaunt and SunTalk: Live no longer

This is a turn up. Just as there was speculation that The Sun's online radio venture SunTalk, fronted by shock-jock Jon Gaunt, was to become a national digital station, News International has pulled the plug.
A News International spokesman said: "News International can confirm that SunTalk has closed. This was a business decision taken as part of an ongoing review of costs and strategy to focus on core operations."
  • Gaunt has just lost a High Court court case in which he challenged being censured by Ofcom for calling a council represantative a "health Nazi" and "ignorant pig" on air - which led to his sacking from talkSport.

David Cameron back on SunTalk

Tory leader David Cameron is appearing on the Sun's online radio station SunTalk today from the Conservative Party conference in Manchester and will be interviewed by presenter and Sun columnist Jon Gaunt.
Cameron, who last week won the backing of the Sun in the next election, was the first guest to appear on SunTalk when it launched in April.
The Conservatives have pledged to drop the impartiality rules for broadcasters if they get into power. This could lead to SunTalk going mainstream, former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie has predicted.

SunTalk may go mainstream under Tories

Sun columnist Kelvin MacKenzie says today that the paper's internet radio station SunTalk will almost certainly go mainstream if the Tories win the next election and drop the impartiality rules for news from commercial broadcasters.
MacKenzie described as "great news" for SKY, ITV and Channel 4 the pledge by Jeremy Hunt, shadow Conservative Culture Secretary, to bring in new laws to free commercial broadcasters from impartiality rules.
"All these organisations will be allowed to take a view on their news...it will will almost certainly mean that SunTalk will go mainstream - and Jon Gaunt can stuff it up the rear end of TalkSport and Ofcom," he says.
