Dunn steps down as editor of New York Daily News

British journalist Martin Dunn is stepping down as editor of the New York Daily News after seven years to spend time with his wife, who is ill.
The New York Times reports that Dunn, who edited Today in the UK and was deputy editor of the Sun, said he did not feel he could devote the time required to run a paper as large as the Daily News, New York’s biggest tabloid, while caring for his wife.
It quotes Dunn saying: “She has an illness that is going to take us many months to get over, and I want to spend as much time as I can with her. The demands of running a tabloid newspaper in a city with a tabloid war are enormous. And if you can’t spend every ounce of energy doing that then unfortunately you don’t feel as though the paper is getting the best of you.”
His replacement will be Kevin Convey, who has been the editor of The Boston Herald for three and a half years.
Dunn started his career on the Dudley Herald and worked for the Birmingham Evening Mail and Birmingham Post before joining the Daily Mail as a reporter. He was also editor of Bizarre at the News of the World.
