Newsquest journalists plan strike over job cuts

NUJ members at Newsquest Cheshire and Merseyside have voted unanimously to take two days of strike action next Wednesday (14 September) and Tuesday (20 September) over the company's plans to make five redundancies.

After the first day of action, the NUJ chapel will start an indefinite work-to-rule. The strike involves journalists working on the Warrington Guardian, Northwich Guardian, Sale and Altrincham Messenger, St Helens Star and The Wirral Globe.

NUJ members say they are determined to take action unless the company agree to immediate high level talks and suspend the redundancy consultation to allow for agreement to be reached on ways forward.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said: "The NUJ is calling on Newsquest management to urgently get round the table and talk to the union.”
