'Price cuts would give Indies kiss of life'

The Observer's media commentator Peter Preston argues that the Independent and Independent on Sunday should cut their cover prices.
He writes today: "If the two Indies are going to live, they need a financial kiss of life. In particular, they need pricing that matches what they are – brisk, intelligent and, innovative. Say the Indy at 75p and the Sindy at £1.25? That would make market waves and truly test whether the titles have a future."
This may be sound advice. The only problem is if it happens, and works, the "market waves" are bound to hit sales of the Guardian and, er, the Observer.
