Up to 50 journalists' jobs are under threat at the Press Association as a result of the impending withdrawal of the Teletext news service, HoldtheFrontPage and Press Gazette report today.
Teletext's owner, Daily Mail and General Trust, announced in July that it would be switching off the service from January 2010.
PA , which supplies news and sport copy for Teletext, is reviewing its operations and announced today a formal consultation period over plans to axe up to 50 posts in news and sport production.
PA said in a statement that it "will continue to focus on new opportunities in the market and we will use our very best efforts to minimise job losses.”
