The NUJ is holding a one day summit for union members working in the magazine and book publishing sectors on 10 October.
The union says: "Hardly a day goes by without more reports of magazine and book publishers looking to axe jobs, close titles, cut freelance budgets or reduce costs by getting fewer staff to take on more work. Despite the tough economic challenges facing the industry it remains a profitable business - and too many publishers want to keep it that way, whatever the consequences for staff and freelances."
The idea of the summit is to discuss how best to face the challenges confronting magazines and book publishing and discuss with officials and reps how best to tackle redundancies, handle concerns over workloads and stress, and build a campaign against cuts or closures.
Contributors will include NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear and deputy general secretary Michelle Stanistreet as well as M/FoCs representing members in the publishing sector.
The union says sessions will include practical advice on handling redundancies, training, rights at work and union organising. To register for the Publishing Industry Jobs Summit email campaigns@nuj.org.uk It takes place at the NUJ's London headquarters, Headland House, Grays Inn Road and runs from 11.30am - 3.30pm
