Ireland's Sunday Tribune in danger of closure

Journalists at Ireland's Sunday Tribune have been told by management that the title may not publish next Sunday, and a receiver has been appointed.

NUJ Irish secretary Seamus Dooley said staff at the Dublin-based paper were shocked by the sudden announcement, which follows a decision by Independent News and Media to withdraw funding from the paper.

Dooley said: "We find it inexplicable that the board of INM has pulled the plug at this time, having provided funding for so long to the Sunday Tribune. It is inexplicable that this decision should come on the day the Irish General Election was called, given the proud record of the Sunday Tribune in the field of current affairs, North and South. We can ill afford the loss of a newspaper which has frequently challenged the consensus."
