NUJ strike today at Newsquest in Southampton

Members of the NUJ at Newsquest Southampton, publisher of the Southern Daily Echo, have started the first of two 48-hours strikes today, in a long-running dispute over a continuing pay freeze.

The union says the strike, which will be followed by another on 16th and 17th November if there is no setllement, follows negotiations dating back to spring this year.

Striking journalists plan to protest at a Press Complaints Commission open day event being held in Southampton at the City Art Gallery today, promoting the PCC's work to the public.
