The Johnston Press-owned title was chosen from a shortlist that included The Cumberland News, the Hampstead & Highgate Express, the Irish News, the Nottingham Post, The Press, York, and the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Journalists from the Portsmouth paper also picked up a clutch of individual awards.

Congratulations! It was me who was supposed to present you with your prize - it's a shame you couldn't make it.
Jeremy Dear did suggest putting me on a train to take the certificate and champagne up to Scotland, a plan of which I very much approved. Unfortunately it seems he was joking.
Instead, I'll have to shake your (and your team's) hand virtually!
