New Government pledges on libel reform, Freedom of Information and safeguards on anti-terror laws

The document setting out agreements reached between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats includes commitments to review the libel laws to protect freedom of speech; safeguards against the misuse of anti-terrorism legislation; and the extension of the Freedom of Information Act to provide greater transparency.
  • Jeremy Hunt has been appointed secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport in a newly created department.
