MEN sale 'deal of the decade' for Sly Bailey

The Daily Telegraph today quotes media analyst Lorna Tilbian as describing the Guardian Media Group's sale of the Manchester Evening News to Trinity Mirror as the "deal of the decade" ...for Trinity Mirror boss Sly Bailey.
The Telegraph, which broke the story that the sale was being discussed, points out that Trinity Mirror will pay just £7.4 million in cash for the MEN and 31 other GMG regional titles. The rest of the £44.8 million deal saw GMG released from a £37.4 million contract with Trinity to print the MEN and other regional papers for the next 10 years.
The story should perhaps be seen in context of sniping between the Telegraph and Guardian in recent months.
