In his autobiography,
My Paper Chase, Harold Evans looks back at his time as a sub on the then eight edition a day, hot metal produced
Manchester Evening News, which was sold yesterday by the Guardian Media Group to Trinity Mirror.
Evans writes: "Nothing before, and nothing I have experienced since, working for newspapers, radio, television and websites in London and New York and Washington, matches the speed demanded of everyone on the Evening News."
Great memories, and absolutely the case re speed, concentration and work ethic on live evening newspapers. Nothing like it... Although I'm told that live, talk-based radio provides good treatment for addicts.
